About Flavours of Canada ™
Originally the title of a best-selling book on the regional foods of Canada, Anita Stewart's Flavours of Canada™ has become the brand that author and culinary activist Anita Stewart developed as a response to the BSE crisis that was decimating the Canadian beef industry in 2003. The website was created to host what she dubbed The World’s Longest Barbecue ~ Canada Day 2!
Always held at 6 p.m. on the first Saturday of August, The World’s Longest Barbecue ~ Canada Day 2! is a unique and ultimately Canadian grass roots celebration of Canada’s agricultural bounty. It’s also a powerful forum for telling our food stories to one another all across the nation. Geographic boundaries collapse as the celebration begins and grillers from coast to coast to coast cook their own great regional foods!
There were and still are no fees and no rules of any sort to participate other than that simple requirement to cook Canadian and share our pride-filled menus and stories. The results have been magnificent and, over the years, tens of thousands have joined the party!
